Me as a Contemporary Teacher
A challenge to your beliefs
You as a contemporary teacher?
To what extent is it reasonable to conclude that
if you are not experiencing positive or negative emotions about the materials
and activities in any learning experience, that you are potentially
disinterested or not motivated? Discuss in relation to your first emotional
response to the nature of this unit.
I think it is
reasonable to assume that if you are not experiencing any sort of negative or
positive emotions you might be disinterested or unmotivated. However, until you
complete the activities, do the readings and watch the lectures you will not
really know how you feel about the course. When I first saw the title of the
course I was interested to know what it is about and after reading the unit
profile I was even more enthused in engaging with the material.
Elaborate on
your emotions on engaging further with this unit? Positive, negative.
Indifferent?
My emotions on
engaging further with this unit are positive. I am really interested to see
what this unit has to offer and to dive deeper into the different digital
pedagogies, how they can be used on classrooms and how they can positively
influence student learning.
To what extent
do you have the commitment to actively interrogate your emotions, and your
beliefs about creative pedagogy that extends beyond the mere delivery of
information to your learners?
I am very
committed in actively interrogating my emotions and my beliefs about creative
pedagogies. It is important that I reflect on what I am feeling about creative
pedagogy and find a way to stay open minded and committed in exploring the
un-known.
Identify your
present values and beliefs about ICT in the classroom. Keep it brief and
focused.
My present values
and beliefs about ICT in the classroom is that it is an essential tool in
student learning. I do believe that learning could happen without ICT, however,
using ICT in the classroom will greatly benefit all learners in my opinion.
Using different digital tools and formats has the potential of broadening a
student's experience and skills as well as pushing a learner to get out of
their comfort zone.
Your approach
to teaching and learning
I think that as a
contemporary teacher I will be very open in trying new digital technologies if
I decide that it will be beneficial to my students. As a contemporary learner I
will also be open-minded and try and familiarize myself with different technological
formats such as Google sites and Blogger.
Identify any
challenges to the early challenges to your values and beliefs as you enter this
unit?
The challenge for
me will be to stay calm if I find it challenging to use a certain technology. I
also need to be able to ask for help if I need it which is something I have
struggled with in the past.
What
experience do you have with ICT in the classroom?
Growing up in
Greece I never had any sort of technology in the classroom. The classroom was
very traditional (teacher would verbally deliver a lesson, students would read
their textbook and answers questions in their notebooks). Therefore, when I
moved in Australia I had to engage with technology which scared me. Every
student seemed so confident in using programs such as Word and PowerPoint.
However, when I received help in learning how to use these programs I found
them highly useful and efficient when doing my work.
